Most Of Those Who Will Enter Hell Will Be Women!

Most of Hell’s inhabitants are women

In the khutbah given during the solar eclipse, the Prophet (saw) said;

I saw hell and I saw that most of its dwellers/inhabitants were women.” [Bukhaaree & Muslim, via Ibn ‘Abbaas]

Most of Hell’s inhabitants are women! (Another narration)

The Prophet (saw) mentioned;

I stood by the gate of Hell and saw that most of those who entered (it) were women.” [Bukhaaree & Muslim, via Usaamah Ibn Zayd]

Because they (women) are ungrateful to their husbands

The prophet (aw) said;

O women, give in charity, for I have seen that you form the majority of the people of Hell.

They asked, “Why is that, O Messenger of Allaah?

He (saw) answered, “Because you curse too much and are ungrateful for the good treatment (done to you by your husbands).” [Bukhaaree & Muslim, via Abu Sa’eed al-Khudree]

In another narration

The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “I was shown Hell and I have never seen anything more terrifying than it. And I saw that the majority of its people are women.

They asked, “Why, O Messenger of Allaah?

He (saw) said, “Because of their ingratitude (kufr).

It was said, “Are they ungrateful to Allaah?

He (saw) said, “They are ungrateful to their companions (husbands) and ungrateful for good treatment. If you are kind to one of them for a lifetime then she sees one (undesirable) thing in you, she will say, ‘I have never had anything good from you.’

[Bukhaaree (#1052), via ‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Abbaas]

In yet another narration

It was narrated that Jaabir ibn ‘Abd-Allaah said: “I attended Eid prayers with the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). He started with the prayer before the khutbah, with no adhaan or iqaamah. Then he stood up, leaning on Bilaal, speaking of fear of Allaah (taqwa) and urging us to obey Him. He preached to the people and reminded them. Then he went over to the women and preached to them and reminded them. Then he said, ‘Give in charity, for you are the majority of the fuel of Hell’.

A woman with dark cheeks stood up in the midst of the women and said, ‘Why is that, O Messenger of Allaah?

He (saw) said, ‘Because you complain too much and are ungrateful to your husbands.’ Then they started to give their jewellery in charity, throwing their earrings and rings into Bilaal’s cloak.”

[Muslim (#885), via Jaabir ibn ‘Abd-Allaah]

Very few women will enter Paradise

The Prophet (saw) mention;

Few of the inhabitants of Paradise are women.” [Muslim, via ‘Imraan Ibn Husayn]

How rare are the women of Paradise amongst us

‘Amr Ibn al-‘Aas mentioned ‘Whilst we were with the Messenger of Allaah (saw) in this valley (on this mountain path), he (saw) said;

Look, can you see anything?

We said, ‘We se crows, and one of them stands out because its beak and feet are red.

The Messenger of Allaah said; “No women will enter Paradise except those who are as rare among them as this crow is among the others.” [Ahmad & Abu Ya’la, via ‘Amr Ibn al-‘Aas, see also Silsilat al-Ahaadeeth as-Saheehah, 4/466. hadeeth # 1851]

Explanation:

Qurtubee mentions in his ‘At-Tadhkhirah’ (1/369):

Women will be few among the inhabitants of Paradise because in most cases they prefer the immediate pleasures of this life, as they are (generally) less wise and unable to keep the hereafter in mind.

They are too weak to strive (alone) and prepare themselves for it, and are more inclined towards this world.

In spite of all this, they are the strongest factor in this world that distracts men from the Hereafter, because men are inclined to desire them and they are not concerned with the Hereafter.

They are quick to follow those who call them to deviate from Islaam, and reluctant to follow those pious people who call them to the Hereafterand righteous deeds.”

Another factor why many people will be driven to hell (in a thirsty state) is mentioned in a hadeeth collected by Bukhaaree and Muslim  on the authority of Aboo Hurayrah, where the Messenger of Allaah said;

Hell is surrounded with desires, and Paradise is veiled (in another narration ‘surrounded’) by hardships.

May Allaah protect us all from the Fire of Hell, whose fuel is mankind and stones.

  1. faatimah Says:

    I sent this 2 my ‘anti islamic’ auntie and she said three things about it:

    1) that the hadiths are out of context

    2) that this is discouraging women to practise Islaam

    3) i forgot the third one

    she said she doesn’t believe in these hadiths

    • Islam 4 UK Says:

      salaams,

      if ur auntie says they’re out of context why dont u ask her for the ‘correct’ context.

      Its like what dr zakir naik said about the quran ”we say it is the word of God, but the non muslims say, no it isnt, so we say, whose words are they then? And then they’re silent, only coming out with guesses, and unlogical answers.”

      so the same way, why dont u ask her for the context, see what she says

      Also, Is it true that a person who denies a hedeeth of the messenger of Allaah has committed disbelief?

    • The hadeeths are not discouraging women to practise the deen, quite the contrary…

      The one who said…

      Facilitate things to people (concerning religious matters), and do not make it hard for them and give them good tidings and do not make them run away (from Islam).” [Bukhaaree]

      …is the same one who said

      Few of the inhabitants of Paradise are women.” [Muslim]

      So it can never be words of discouragement.

      If one truly ponders over it, it is in fact words of encouragement.

      It is like a teacher telling her class of 20 students that there are only 6 places left for the Medicine College. Now only those who are truly eager to go into the field of Medicine would strive and struggle to get a place therein (irrespective of there being slight chances).

      So likewise, the above mentioned hadeeths are words of encouragement for those women who truly seek a place in Jannah (Paradise).

      So reading these hadeeths, inform women of the common pitfalls that are in their path to Jannah…

      Allaah says in Soorah Naba (78) verse 39:

      WHOSOEVER wills, let him seek a place with (or a way to) His Lord (by obeying Him in this worldly life)

      So the door is open to all…

      Likewise Allaah says:

      Never will I allow to be lost the work of any of you, be he male or female.” [Aal ‘Imraan 3:195]

      And Allaah is the Most Just. Never will the struggle of one be lost:

      So WHOEVER does righteous good deeds while he is a believer, his efforts will not be rejected. Verily! We record it in his Book of deeds.” [21:94]

      And WHOEVER earns a good righteous deed, We shall give him an increase of good in respect thereof. Verily, Allaah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Ready to appreciate (the deeds of those who are obedient to Him).” [42: 23]

      WHOEVER works righteousness, whether male or female, while he (or she) is a true believer, verily, to him We will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and We shall pay them certainly a reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do (i.e. Paradise in the Hereafter).” [16:97]

      And WHOEVER does righteous good deeds, male or female, and is a true believer in the Oneness of Allaah, such will enter Paradise and not the least injustice, even to the size of a Naq-ra (speck on the back of a date stone), will be done to them.” [4:124]

      And likewise for those who sin:

      And WHOEVER transgresses the limits ordained by Allaah, then such are the Zaalimoon (wrong-doers, etc.).” [2:229]

      So there is no discouragement in these hadeeths. Discouragement in these hadeeths are only “seen” by those who intellect has gone far astray…

      And know that “Whoever goes right, then he goes right only for the benefit of his ownself.” [19:15]

      I hope this has answered the question…

  2. Islam 4 UK Says:

    How comes my message came up twice?

  3. These hadeeths are a warning to sisters to take heed. Be not like those about whom Allaah says:

    And surely, We have explained [Our Promises, Warnings and (set forth many) examples] in this Qur’aan that they (the disbelievers) may take heed, but it increases them in naught save aversion.” [17:41]

  4. 'Abdul ''Azeez Says:

    Good! Women deserve nothing but the fire of hell for disobedience to their husbands!

    • Great! Men deserve nothing but the fire of hell for abusing their wives! That was me generalizing against all men, just like you generalized against all women. Didn’t like that, did ya? Grow up! You seem like the type of man who will control his wife (if you ever get married with an attitude and mindset like that), deny her her rights (because you seem to think that she doesn’t have/deserve any) and, in all possibility, ruin her life. Yep, you’ll definitely enter heaven if you do that.

  5. this is because wives are not obedient, why cant they take beat from their husbands when quran gives right to them for that?

    • Assalaamu ‘alaykum,

      A husband is not allowed to ‘beat’ his wife (or wives). Discipline comes in three stages:

      1) Admonish her and advice her showing her evidence pointing to her deeds being bad. Also tell her of the consequences of her misconduct.

      2) Refuse to share her bed.

      3) If you believe light hitting will be beneficial to bring about a change, then it is permissible on conditions. Also this ‘light hitting’ is a form of discipline in order to bring her back to guidance, not a form of revenge. For more info refer to “An-Nushooz (Marital Discord)” by Shaykh Saalih Al-Sadlaan.

  6. shazade Says:

    i know alot of people think this is sexist but i dont just a warning, it scares me but that it good thing so i strive more in my religion, may allah (swt) guide me to the straight path

  7. Allah knows best. I may not be comfortable with the Hadeeth, but I shall try my best to not be one of those women. May Allah swt protect us.
    I do ask myself why is it that so many more men seem astray these days and so many women fill the classes of Deen.

    • Your question/doubt ( ofhow comes there are so many more practising sisters nowadays) can be answered in the following ways

      1) The hadith is talking about the end result, not the norm in every period of time. So there could be times in history when majority of women are on Deen and majority of men are not. However on the whole (during the long run), the average result is that most women will be in hell.

      2) It may appear that most women are practising however they may fall into ridda prior to death, or may be following a brand of Islam not brought by the Prophet.

      And Allaah knows best.
