A Third Letter Of Advice From ‘Umar Ibn Al-Khattaab To Sa’d Ibn Abee Waqqaas Before The Battle Of Qaadisiyyah (14 H)

‘Umar wrote to Sa’d yet again, reminding him of the spiritual means of victory, which were the most important. In this letter he said:

“Pay a great deal of attention to your heart (spiritual well-being). Talk to your troops, exhort them and remind them of the importance of good intentions and of checking on themselves.

Patience, patience, for the help of Allaah comes in accordance with good intentions, and the reward comes in accordance with how much one checks oneself.

Be careful as you are on this mission for His sake, ask Allaah to keep you safe and sound and frequently repeat the words “laa hawla wa laa quwwata illa billaah” (Trans. There is no power nor any strength except with Allaah).

Write and tell me where you have reached with your army, for my lack of knowledge of your situation and that of your enemy is keeping me from writing some of the things I wanted to write. Describe to us the routes of the Muslims and the land that lies between you and al-Madaa’in (the place to where they were heading), so that it is as if I can see it, and give me a clear picture of your situation.

Fear Allaah and put your hope in Him, and do not take anything for granted. Remember that Allaah has made a promise to you. Put your trust in Allaah with regard to the mission you are embarking on, and beware lest you be removed from this position and replaced with someone else.”

Dont Waste Your Time. Recite Quraan While Leaving A Lesson

Once, one of the Salaf gave his friends some advice saying:

“When you leave me then split up; so perhaps one of you will read some Quraan in the road, because whenever you meet up with each other you talk.”

Rectifying The Ummah, Starts From Our Own Selves, By Ibn ‘Uthaymeen

Ibn ‘Uthaymeen said:

“Countries only prosper because of its citizens and the religion is only established by its people. Therefore, when the people establish the religion, Allaah will render them victorious over their enemies whoever they are.

Allaah says:

O you who believe, if you help Allaah, he will help you and make your foothold firm…” [47:7]

In view of the fact that the religion is established by its people, its duties upon us, the people of Islaam and the bearers of its flag, is to first rectify ourselves, so we can be the people of leadership, guidance, examples of success and correctness.”

He then goes on to say:

“The young boys of today will be the men of tomorrow. They are the foundation which the future of this nation is built upon. For this reason the text of the shar’iah mention incitement for caring and ultimately guiding them to good.

If the young are righteous then they become the deserving foundation of this community which the community’s future rests upon.

A society whose well-being has righteousness built upon strong pillars, religion and good character. In the end, if Allaah wills, the future will be bright and promising for the community and its pious elders.”

A Believer Is Never Totally Free, Doing Nothing

Qataadah Ibn Khulayd said:

“You will never find a believer except doing one of three things:

(1) Offering worship in the masjid.

(2) Resting in a house that screens him.

(3) Or handling some worldly business that is binding (on him).”

[Sifatus Safwah, 3/231]

‘Abdullaah Ibn Mas’ood said:

“Indeed, I hate to see a man totally free, not doing anything from the work of the life of this world nor the Hereafter.”

The Strangers Accused Of Being Mad

Posted in Authentic Adhkaar, Miscellaneous with tags , , , , , , , , , on March 27, 2012 by TheAuthenticBase

Because the pious are regarded as strange, it is possible that some of them be accused of insanity just as Owais was accused. Aboo Muslim Al-Khawlaanee would frequently perform dhikr, his tongue would always move in the remembrance of Allaah and so a man asked one of his colleagues:

“Is your friend mad?”

Aboo Muslim replied:

“No, my brother, rather this is the cure for madness!”

[‘Abdullaah Ibn Ahmad, Zawaa’id Al-Zuhd, p. 384]

There is a hadeeth in which the Prophet (saw) said:

“Remember Allah until they say ‘he is mad!‘ “

al-Hasan said:

“… He would say they have lost their minds; yes, they have lost their minds, but to a matter far greater than their suspicions. By Allaah, in the pursuit of it they have no time for your worldly lot!”

The Eyes Of The Heart

Posted in Dunya | Aakhirah with tags , , , , , , , , on March 25, 2012 by TheAuthenticBase

It is reported that Khâlid b. Ma’dân – Allâh have mercy on him – said:

There is not a person except he has four eyes: two in his head with which he sees the matters of this worldly life, and two in his heart with which he looks to the matters of the hereafter.

So if Allâh wants good for his servant, He opens his heart’s eyes, and so he perceives what he has been promised in the unseen world. Thus he is saved from the unseen [punishment] through the unseen [reward for the obedient].
