Accepting The Sunnah Is A Part Of Accepting The Quraan, By Imaam Ash-Shaafi’ee
Imaam Ash-Shaafi’ee said:
“I have not heard of a single person who is described as being a man of knowledge nor of anyone who describes himself as being a man of knowledge who disagrees regarding the status of the sunnah: that Allaah ordered us to obey the commands of the Messenger of Allaah (saw) and to surrender to his rulings and that all who come after the Prophet (saw) must obey him.
Nor do they differ in that there exists no statement that is binding except for Allaah’s Book and the Messenger’s Sunnah. All else is secondary to these two sources.”
He then went on to say:
“Anyone who accepts Allaah’s commands in the Quraan of necessity must accept the Messenger if Allaah’s sunnah, because in the Quraan, Allaah commanded the creation to obey the Prophet (saw). So whoever accepts something from the Messenger of Allaah (saw) is accepting it from Allaah…”
