The Virtue Of The Scholars

Allaah says:

Allaah bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except He, and (so do) the angels, and (so do) those having knowledge…” [3:18]

Al-Bayhaqee said, commenting on this verse:

“Allaah placed the word scholars next to the word angels, just as He placed the word angels next to His Name. So just as virtue and honor is required for the angels because of what Allaah granted them by that, then likewise virtue and honor is required for the scholars because of the same thing Allaah granted them by it.”

[Shu’ab Al-Eemaan, 5/323]

Al-Qurtubee said, commenting on this verse:

“There is proof in this aayah for the virtue of knowledge and the nobility and merit of the scholars. This is because of there were anyone more virtuous than the scholars, Allaah would have linked them with His Name and the name of the angels just as He did with the scholars.”

[Al-Jaami’ Li Ahkaam Al-Quraan, 4/41]

Ibn Al-Qayyim said, commenting on this verse:

“Allaah calls on the scholars to testify to the noblest of testimonies, which the His Oneness (tawheed)… and this is evidence for the virtue of knowledge and its people.”

[Miftaah Daar As-Sa’aadah, 1/219]
