This World Is Coming To An End, A Sermon By ‘Alee (Ra)

‘Alee Ibn Abee Taalib said:

“This world is soon coming to an end and will bid farewell, and the hereafter is coming and will soon begin. Today the horses are being kept in preparation, and tomorrow will be the race.

Indeed you are living in the days of hope that will be interrupted by death. Whoever falls short during the days of hope before his death comes will be doomed.

Strive hard for the sake of Allaah (swt) in the hope of reward as you strive hard for His sake for fear of His punishment.

I have never seen anything like paradise whose seekers could sleep. And I have never seen anything like hell, those who fear which can sleep.

The one who does not benefit from the truth will be harmed by falsehood, and whoever does not benefit from guidance will be led astray by misguidance. You have been instructed to travel, and you have been told about your provision. O people, this world is a temporary convenience; the righteous and the immoral alike may enjoy its luxuries. But the hereafter is true, and it will be ruled by a powerful King. Satan threatens you with poverty and bids you to do evil, but Allah (swt) promises you forgiveness and bounty from Him, and Allaah (swt) cares for all and knows all things.

O people, do righteous deeds during your lifetime, and your offspring will be taken care of.

Allaah (swt) has promised His paradise to those who obey Him, and He has warned of His hell for those who disobey Him. Its fire will never be extinguished, its prisoners will never be ransomed, and the one who suffers therein will never be helped. Its heat is intense, its bottom is deep and its water is a boiling fetid liquid.”

Thinking Little Of Oneself, By Ibn Al-Jawzee

Ibn Al-Jawzee:

“Whoever thinks of the inclination of his own self and the sins that his self is committing will release his sins and shortcomings for certain and will be uncertain with regard to other people. What he must beware of is self-admiration and exaggeration about the righteous deed that he is doing for the hereafter. The believer in that regard is always thinking little of himself.

It was said to ‘Umar Ibn ‘Abdil-‘Azeez, ‘If you die we will bury you in the chamber of the Messenger of Allaah (saw).‘ He said, ‘If I meet Allaah with all kinds of sins except for polytheism (shirk), that is dearer to me than thinking of myself a qualified for that.‘ “

True Knowledge Is What Leads To The Fear Of Allaah

Posted in Knowledge with tags , , , , , on July 1, 2015 by TheAuthenticBase

Allaah says:

… It is only those who have knowledge among His slaves that fear Allaah…” [35:28]

Ibn Katheer said:

“The only ones who truly fear Allaah are the scholars – those who are knowledgeable about Him. This is because every time one’s knowledge and awareness of The Most Great, The All-Able, The All-Knowing, The One ascribed with Perfect Attributes and described by Perfect Names becomes complete and whole, one’s fear of Him becomes greater and increased.” [Tafseer Ibn Katheer, 3/553]

Al-Bayhaqee said:

“Allaah clarifies that (true) fear of Him can only be achieved through knowledge.” [Shu’ab Al-Eemaan, 5/323]

A man said to Ash-Sha’abee:

“Who is a scholar?”

He replied:

“The scholar is the one who has fear of Allaah.”

‘Abdullaah Ibn Mas’ood said:

“Knowledge is sufficiency for the fear of Allaah and ignorance is a sufficiency for delusion and being mislead.” [Az-Zuhd of Ibn Mubaarak, p.15]

‘Abdullaah Ibn Mas’ood also said:

“Knowledge is not obtaining an abundance of hadeeth, but rather knowledge is obtaining khashyah (fear of Allaah).” [Al-Hilyah, 1/131]

‘Abdullaah Ibn Mas’ood said:

“It is sufficient amount of knowledge for a person that he has fear of Allaah and it is sufficient amount of ignorance for a person that he is amazed by his knowledge.” [Ad-Daarimee, 1/346]

‘Abdul A’laa At-Taymee said:

“Whoever is given knowledge and it does not cause him to weep, then it is appropriate (to say) that he has not been given knowledge that benefits him…” [Ad-Daarimee, 299]

‘Abdullaah Ibn AhmAd Ibn Hanbal said to his father:

“Did Ma’roof have any knowledge?”

Imaam Ahmad replied:

“My son, he had the basis of all knowledge and that is the fear of Allaah.” [Siyar Al-A’laam An-Nubulaa’, 1/339]

Hudhaifah (ra) said:

It is sufficient knowledge for a man that he fears Allaah. And it is a sufficient lie that he says, ‘I seek forgiveness and repent to Him,‘ yet he goes back to doing it.” [Kitaab Al-‘Ilm, of An-Nisaa’ee #14]
