Takfīr Of The Mushrikīn Is From The Asl Of The Religion

Posted in 'Aqeedah with tags , , , , , on May 25, 2017 by TheAuthenticBase

Kufr bit-tāghūt is achieved with five points. Shaykh Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdul Wahhāb mentions these aspects:

1) Believing in the falseness of worshiping others besides Allāh.

2) Leaving these (tawāghīt) for those who are mixed in it.

3) Hating it (the tawāghīt).

4) Making Takfīr of those who worship it.

5) Showing enmity towards those who worship it based on the ability and capacity.

These five points are included in kufr bit-tāghūt and are derived from the following verse, “Indeed there has been an excellent example for you in Ibrāhīm and those with him, when they said to their people: ‘Verily, we are free from you and whatever you worship besides Allāh, we have rejected / disbelieved in you, and there has appeared between us and you, hostility and hatred forever, until you believe in Allāh Alone.’…” [60:4]

All five points are considered from the meaning of kufr bit-tāghūt, hence anyone who tries to differentiate between them, or claims that some are fundamental aspects (asl) of kufr bit-tāghūt and others are not has indeed gone far astray and has invented a lie against Allāh.

Hence doing takfīr of the person is part and parcel of kufr bit-tāghūt (as are the other four points). This is taken from the statement of Ibrāhīm when he said, as quoted above, “We have rejected / disbelieved in you (مكب انرفك)” [60:4]. This phrase of Prophet Ibrāhīm proves that takfīr of the Mushrikīn is from kufr bit-tāghūt, and hence whoever does not do so is not considered a Muslim, as he has not accepted kufr bit- tāghūt. As I quoted previously, Shaykh ‘Abdul Latīf Ibn ‘Abdul Rahmān said, “Kufr bit- tāghūt is a condition that Islām cannot be fulfilled without.” [Misbah Al-Dhalam]

Learn this point as it is vital in this day and age: refraining from doing takfīr of the Mushrikīn (those who fall in to major kufr or major shirk) tantamounts to a rejection of  kufr bit-tāghūt, as the person is denying one of the five fundamental principles of kufr bit-tāghūt (and a denial of one is a denial of the whole) – for no doubt this is a pillar of kufr bit-tāghūt. And a rejection of kufr bit-tāghūt is nothing but a rejection of the first part of the shahādah, “lā ilāha” (there is none worthy of worship). As such the one who refrains from doing takfīr of the Mushrikīn has nullified his shahādah.

This is what lead Shaykh Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdul Wahhāb to say the third nullifier of Islām is, “Whoever does not declare takfīr upon the Mushrikīn or doubts regarding their kufr or describes their way as being correct has committed kufr.” [Nawāqidh Al-Islām,by Shaykh Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdul Wahhāb.]

His grandson, Shaykh ‘Abdul Latīf Ibn Abdul Rahmān even declared takfīr of the Mushrikīn as, “the most important of what is obligatory from kufr bit-tāghūt.” [Al-Itihaf Fī Al-Radd ‘Alā Al-Sahaf] The reason for this aspect being the most important of all five, is that from this do all the other four aspects branch out, and if one has this, then by default it means one should have the other four aspects. The primary aspect of ‘disbelieving’ in tāghūt is to declare them as ‘disbelievers’. It’s that simple.

To give an example of this, whoever does not declare as disbelievers those who worship the dead, prostrate to other than Allāh, call upon other than Allāh, or claim the Qurān is not complete, then such a person has nullified his kufr bit-tāghūt, and hence nullified his shahādah, as the first of that which is obligatory upon the slave, prior to believing in Allāh, is kufr bit-tāghūt.

Hence, it can safely be said that takfīr of the Mushrikīn is from the asl (foundation) of this religion, and anyone who denies this, knowing the implication of his words, is a disbeliever, whose blood, wealth and honour are no longer sanctified.

A Few Requirements Of Faith Which We All Should Know

Ibn Taymiyyah said:

“The declaration of faith, ‘There is none worthy of worship except Allaah’, requires you to love  only for the sake of Allaah, to hate only for the sake of Allaah, to ally yourself only for the sake of Allaah, to declare enmity only for the sake of Allaah. It requires you to love what Allaah loves and to hate what Allaah hates.

It also requires you to ally yourself to the Muslims wherever you find them and to oppose the disbelievers, even if they are your closest kin.”

The Ruling On He Who Says The Qurān Is Created

Posted in 'Aqeedah, Qur'an with tags , , , , , , , on March 10, 2017 by TheAuthenticBase

The ‘aqīdah of Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jamā’ah is that the Qurān is the speech of Allāh and that it is uncreated. But what is the ruling on the one who claims it is created? Below I shall present some quotes from our Salaf in this regard:

1) Sufyān Ath-Thawrī said, “The Qurān is the speech of Allāh (azza wa jall) and he who says that it is created then he is a kāfir, and he who doubts in his kufr then he is a kāfir.” [Abdullāh Ibn Al-Imām Ahmad in Kitāb As-Sunnaah, 20]

The likes of this statement has also been narrated from Abū Khuthaymah as is found in Sharh Usūl Iqtiqād Ahl As-Sunnah Wal-Jamā’ah, 265/2 the famous book of Al-Lālikāī.

2) Abū Bakr Ibn Ayyāsh Al-Muqri’ (died 194h) the trustworthy worshipper, was asked about he who says the Qurān is created so he said “A kāfir, and he who does not say that he is kāfir then he is also a kāfir.” Its chain is authentic and is found in As-Sunnah of Al-Lālikāī.

3) Ibn Hajr said in At-Tahthīb [303/2]: From Dāwūd Ibn Al-Hasan Al-Bayhaqī: It has reached me that Al-Halwānī* said, “I do not make takfīr of he who hesistates with regards to the Qurān.” Dāwūd said: So I asked Salmah Ibn Shabīb (died 247h) about Al-Halwānī so he said: “He is to be thrown in Al-Hush. He who does not bear witness to the kufr of a kāfir then he is kāfir.” Salmah Ibn Shabīb An-Naysābūrī (died 247h) was the Muhaddith of the people of Makkah.

Khatīb Al-Baghdādī also mentioned this in Tārīkh Al-Baghdād.

*Al-Halwānī is Abū Muhammad Al-Halwānī Al-Husayn ibn ‘Alī Ibn Muhammad Al-Hathli Al-Khilāl.

4) Abū Zara’ah ‘UbaydAllāh Ibn Abdil Karīm Ar-Rāzi (died 264h) said, “Whoever claimed that the Qurān is created then he is a disbeliever in Allāh Al-‘Athīm, a kufr that takes one out of the millah, and he who doubts in his kufr from those that understand then he is also kāfir.”

Abū Hātim Muhammad Ibn Idrīs Ar-Rāzi (died 277h) said exactly the same. Al-Lālikāī narrated all of it in As-Sunnah [2/176)]

5) Imām Ahmad in his reply about the Qurān said, “So it is the speech of Allāh not created, and he who says ‘created’ is a kāfir in Allāh Al-‘Athīm and he who does not make takfeer of him is also kāfir.” [Abū Ya’la in Tabaqāt Al-Hanābilah, 315/1. From Masrud Ibn Masurhad Al-Basrāwī]

How To Disbelieve In Taaghoot

Posted in 'Aqeedah with tags , , , , , on March 1, 2017 by TheAuthenticBase

The way of disbelieving in the Taghut is achieved with five things. These were mentioned by ash-Shaykh Muhamad bin ‘Abdul bin Abdul Wahhab – may Allah have mercy on him – in a separate treatise. And they are:

  • Believing in the falseness of worshiping others besides Allah.
  • Leaving these [Taghuts] for those who are mixed in it.
  • Hating it [the Taghuts].
  • Making Takfeer of those who worship it.
  • Showing enmity towards those who worship it based on the ability and capacity.

One can refer to the books of ‘aqeedah for the proofs for these points.

Madhhabs Mixing With Deviated Beliefs, By Ibn Taymiyyah

Ibn Taymiyyah said:

“The same goes for the four (well known) madhhabs and others, especially since many of them have been engulfed by some of the fundamental views (related to ‘aqeedah) and this (views of the madhhab) has become mixed with that (views of other sects).

So the Hanbalee, Maalikee and Shaafi’ee adherent mixes some of the fundamental (i.e. ‘aqeedah) beliefs of the Ash’arees, Saalimees and others with the madhhab of Ahmad, Maalik and Shaafi’ee, incorporating these beliefs into their respective madhhab.

Likewise, the Hanafee mixes some of the ‘aqeedah-related views of the Mu’tazilah, Karaamiyyah and Kulaabiyyah with the Hanafee madhhab, thus incorporating that and attributing that to the madhhab of Aboo Haneefah.”

Are The People Of Kalaam Really Those Who Possess Intellect? By Ibn Taymiyyah

Posted in 'Aqeedah with tags , , , , , , , , , on April 1, 2014 by TheAuthenticBase

“The talk concerning these individuals (the people of kalaam) and the corruption of their views has been stated in many places. The point here is that what led them to that was their perception that intellectual reasoning nullifies what the Messenger of Allaah (saw) informed us f or what he intended by his speech.

There is much talk concerning the refutation of this concept in many places, where it has been clarified that the intellect does not negate the textual proofs and that whatever does negate it, then that is corrupt.

After this, it has been clarified that the intellect confirms what the Messenger of Allaah (saw) brought, as well as serves as a witness and verifier of it. It should not be said that it merely doesn’t go against it only. Rather, it confirms and corroborates it. So they are the ones who would say that it (the intellect) denies it (revealed texts).

It has become clear, first, that it neither denies nor nullifies it, and second, that (on the other hand) it confirms and corroborates it.

As for these individuals, it has become clear that their speech by which they oppose the messenger (saw) is false and presents no such contradiction. But this is not just it. Rather, it also contradicts the pure uncorrupted intellect. So they would claim that the intellect (‘aql) contradicts the text (naql). Yet, the following four things have become clear:

Knowledge Based Jihaad, By Ibn Al-Qayyim

Posted in 'Aqeedah, Biddah / Innovation, Knowledge, Methodology Of The Salaf with tags , , , , , , on February 10, 2014 by TheAuthenticBase

While speaking about some of the people of Rhetoric (Ahlul Kalaam) who deny Allaah’s Attributes, Ibn Al-Qayyim said:

“How great a trial against Eemaan was this and its likes! And how great a crime this is against the sunnah and the Quraan! And how beloved to The Most Merciful in making jihaad against it with the heart, hand and tongue! And how heavy is the reward of that jihaad upon the scales.

Jihaad by way of knowledge-based arguments and the tongue takes precedence over jihaad by way of the sword and spears. This is why in the soorahs revealed in makkah, Allaah ordered this type of jihaad to be carried out in the form of warning and admonishing, such that there was no mention of jihaad by the hand. Allaah says:

So do not obey the disbelievers, and wage jihaad with the utmost strength against them with it (the Quraan).” [25:52]

So jihaad by way of knowledge and arguments is the jihaad of His Prophets, Messengers and the elite few amongst His servants particularized with guidance, success and bounty. And whoever dies without having fought or without having spoken to himself about fighting, he dies upon a branch of hypocrisy.”

Seeking Forgiveness For The Misguided, By Ibn Taymiyyah

Posted in 'Aqeedah, Adab (Manners), Killing The Fitna, Methodology Of The Salaf with tags , , , , , , , on December 18, 2013 by TheAuthenticBase

Ibn Taymiyyah said:

“He (Imaam Ahmad) did not make takfeer of the Murji’ah who say that faith is saying without action, nor did he make takfeer of those who considered ‘Alee more virtuous than ‘Uthmaan, rather the texts are clear from him that he prevented even takfeer of the Kawaarij, the Qadariyyah and others besides them. In fact, he only make takfeer of the Jahmiyyah for their denial of Allaah’s names and attributes, and this is because of their clear and apparent contradiction to what the Messenger (saw) came with, since the reality of their claim amount to denial of the Creator. But he suffered at their hands until he knew their reality very well, seeing that it was founded in ta’teel. Indeed takfeer of the Jahmiyyah is well known from among the Salaf Imaams.

Yet Imaam Ahmad did not make takfeer of the individuals among them, because the one who invites to an idea is worse than the one who simply utters it. And the one who punishes those who oppose such ideas is worse than the one who simply invites to them. And the one who makes takfeer of those who oppose him is worse than the one who punishes them.

So in this light, the people in authority were uttering the ideas of the Jahmiyyah, that the Quraan is created, and that Allaah would not be seen in the hereafter, etc., and they were also inviting people to accept these ideas, and inquisiting them over them, punishing them when they did not accept, and making takfeer of those who rejected them. They would keep the prisoners as captives until they uttered the Jahmiyyah belief that the Quraan was created etc., they would not give anyone a position of authority, nor give anyone any provision from the bayt al-maal unless he had these things.

With all these factors present, Imaam Ahmad, may Allaah have mercy upon him, had mercy with them, he sought forgiveness for them, because he knew that it was not clear to them that they were denying the Messenger (saw), nor that they were rejecting what he came with, but they were rather uttering mistaken interpretations, following those who brought such ideas to them.”

Erroneous Principles Of The Jahmiyyah, By Ibn Taymiyyah

Posted in 'Aqeedah with tags , , , , , , on October 22, 2013 by TheAuthenticBase

Regarding the Jahmiyyah, Ibn Taymiyyah said:

“They (the Jahmiyyah) say: ‘They (the Companions) did not actualize the principles of the religion as we have actualized it.

And at times they would make excuses for them by saying that they were preoccupied with Jihaad!

These individuals have so much speech similar to this (1) – which the Raafidhah and their likes from the people of innovation agree with and which they use to oppose the Book, the Sunnah and the Ijmaa’ – that this is not the place that we can go into detail about that.

Rather we have only been warned about the principles of their religion and the reality of their statements. Their objective behind all this is that they claim that intellectual understanding and rhetoric speech that oppose the Book and the Sunnah exist in the foundations of the religion. Their speech contains such contradictions and corruptions that resemble that of the atheists.

So they are from the ranks of the Raafidhah – they have no clear intellect or authentic text.

Rather, their ultimate objective is to impose Sophistry (philosophical reasoning) into intellectual proofs and Karmathianism (Qaraamitah) into the textual proofs. This is the main objective of every innovator that opposes something form the Book and the Sunnah, even in knowledge based matters and fiqh issues.”

The Proofs For Abstaining From Tahreef, Ta’teel, Tamtheel & Takyeef

Posted in 'Aqeedah, Books (pdf's, html's & doc's) with tags , , , , , , , on August 18, 2013 by TheAuthenticBase

Proofs From The Qur’aan:

The first aayah:

And to Allaah belongs the Most Beautiful Names, so call on Him by them, and leave the company of those who ilhaad (belie or deny or deviate away from) His Names. They will be requited for what they used to do…..” [7:180]

The second aayah:

“There is nothing like Him, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.” [42:11]

The third aayah:

And don’t peruse (say) that of which you have no knowledge (about).” [17:36]

The first aayah proves the obligation of ithbaat (affirmation) without making tahreef (change) or ta’teel (denial) because both of these are a form of ilhaad (deviation).

The second aayah proves the obligation of negating any form of tamtheel (likening) (1).

The third aayah proves the negation of any form of takyeef (asking ‘how’), as well as withholding and remaining silent in regards to whatever neither ithbaat (affirmation) nor nafee (negation) has been reported.

‘Alee Ibn Al-Madeenee In The Trial Of The Quraan

Posted in 'Aqeedah, Inspirational Stories, Methodology Of The Salaf with tags , , , , , , , on May 25, 2013 by TheAuthenticBase

Ibn ‘Ammaar Al-Mawsilee said in his Taareekh:

” ‘Alee Ibn Al-Madeenee said to me, ‘What prevents you from declaring the Jahmiyyah to be disbelievers?‘ And at the beginning I had not used to declare them to be disbelievers. Then when ‘Alee (Ibn Al-Madeenee) consented to their saying in the trial (concerning the Quraan) I wrote to him reminding him of his saying to me, and I reminded him of Allaah.

Then later a man informed me about him that he had wept when he had read my letter. Then I later saw him and he said to me, ‘There is nothing in my heart of what I said with my tongue, (i.e. in response to the trial concerning the Quraan) and I responded because I feared that I whould be killed, and you are aware f my weakness, which is such that if I had been ashed a single time I would have died.‘ “

Al-Marroodhee said:

I heard a man from the people of the army say to Aboo ‘Abdullaah (Ahmad Ibn Hanbal);

“(‘Alee) Ibn Al-Madeenee sends the greeting of salaam to you.”

So he (Ahmad Ibn Hanbal) remained silent. So I said to Aboo ‘Abdulaah (Ahmad Ibn Hanbal):

” ‘Abbaas Al-‘Anbaree said to me that ‘Alee Ibn Al-Madeenee mentioned a person and spoke against him, so ‘Abbaas Al-‘Anbaree said to ‘Alee Ibn Al-Madeenee, ‘They will not accept your saying, rather they will only accept from Ahmad Ibn Hanbal.‘ So ‘Alee Ibn Al-Madeenee said, ‘Ahmad was able to withstand lashes, whereas I could not withstand it.‘ “

Ibn ‘Ammaar also said, “He (‘Alee Ibn Al-Madeenee) did not consent out of belief in that, but merely through fear.

Muhammad Ibn ‘Uthmaan said, “I heard ‘Alee Ibn Al-Madeenee say two months before he died, ‘The Quraan is the speech of Allaah, uncreated, and whoever says that it is created is a disbeliever.

Aboo Zur’ah abandoned narrating from ‘Alee Ibn Al-Madeenee due to what occured from him during the trial, but Aboo Haatim used to narrate from him since ‘Alee Ibn Al-Madeenee disassociated himself from what he had done (i.e. under stress). Aboo Haatim said, “ ‘Alee (Ibn Al-Madeenee) was a sign amongst he people with regards to knowledge of hadeeth and hidden defects of transmission (‘ilal).

Adh-Dhahabee said, “Some people report from ‘Abdullaah Ibn Ahmad (Ibn Hanbal) that his father (Imaam Ahmad) withheld from narrating from ‘Alee Ibn Al-Madenee, but I do not see that. Rather ahaadeeth are reported from him in his Musnad, and there are a great number of ahaadeeth from him in Saheeh Bukhaaree.
