Teaching And Disciplining Children

Al-Hasan Al-Basree said:

“The effect of learning in early age is like engraving on a stone.” [Bahjat Al-Majaalis, 1/109]

Ibn Al-Jawzee said:

“Parents should teach the child about religious purity and how to pray, and they should lightly discipline the child for not praying after they reach nine years of age. In addition, they should encourage children to memorize the Quraan and make them listen to the hadeeths, and they should teach them whatever they can handle from knowledge.

Moreover, they should show them the ugliness of all that is ugly, and encourage them to acquire good morals and they should not slacken in teaching them as much as they can bear, for this is the stage of plantation.” [Awakening From The Sleep Of Heedlessness, by Ibn Al-Jawzee, pp. 22-23]

A poet said:

“If you straighten the branches of a plant, they will straighten up.
But the wood of a tree does not soften if you amend it.
Discipline might benefit a little boy in his cradle,
But it does not benefit an old man.”

‘Abdul-Maalik Ibn Marwaan used to love his son Al-Waleed too much but he overlooked disciplining him.Because of that, Al-Waleed ended up making mistakes in grammar and syntax. So ‘Abdul-Maalik said, “Our love for Al-Waleed harmed him!

Implementing The Sharee’ah Even On Your Loved Ones

The Prophet (saw)

The Messenger of Allaah (saw) said, “By Him in Whose Hand my soul is! If Fatima (the daughter of the Prophet) did that (i.e. stole), I would cut off her hand.” [Bukhaaree from ‘Aa’ishah]

Aboo Bakr

After Aboo Bakr’s son accepted Islaam, he said to his father, “By Allaah, I saw you in the battle of Badr, but I dodged you because I didn’t want to fight (and kill) you.”

So Aboo Bakr replied, “By Allaah, I did not see you, but if I did see you, I would have fought and killed you.

‘Umar Ibn Al-Khattaab

When ‘Umar was stabbed, his son ‘Ubaydullaah  killed the killer (Aboo Lu’lu), as well as the two men who were with him who conspired with him to kill ‘Umar (Hormuzaan and Jufaynah), as well as killing Aboo Lu’lu’s daughter for (a) concealing the matter and (b) hiding the weapon for her father. ‘Umar had ordered that his son ‘Ubaydullah be imprisoned so that he might be judged by the caliph after him. [Al-Bidaayah Wa An-Nihaayah, 7/154]

We also know that ‘Umar Ibn Al-Khattab ordered his son to be brought to him in Madeenah, and he flogged his son himself because he found out that he had been drinking wine while he was in Egypt.

Furthermore he killed his own maternal uncle Al-‘Aas Ibn Hishaam in the battle of Badr.

Means To Shirk Which The Shaafi’ee Scholars Have Forbade

Posted in Tawheed/Shirk with tags , , , , , , , , , , on August 8, 2011 by TheAuthenticBase

It has been transmitted from Imaam Ash-Shaafi’ee and his followers that there is a prohibition of the means to shirk such as:

– tajsees of graves (plastering them in order to make them into permanent structures) (1)

– building on top of them (2)

– writing on them (3)

– placing lights on them (4)

– taking them as masaajid (5)

– praying to them (6)

– facing them in du’aa

– making tawaaf around them (7)

– sitting on them (8)

– kissing them (9)

– touching them (9)

– placing sun-shades on them

– to say ‘by Allaah and by your beloved’ (10)

Footnotes:

(1) Based upon the hadeeth in Saheeh Muslim that, “The Messenger of Allaah (saw) forbade that the graves should be plastered (made into permanent structures), used as sitting places (for the people) or building over them.” To know more about the position of Imaam Ash-Shaafi’ee and many of his followers refer to Rawdat At-Taalibeen, 1/652, Al-Majmoo’, 5/266 & Sharh Musilm Lin-Nawawee, 7/37-38.

A List Of Common Deeds Of Shirk Which Are Done At The Graves, By Imaam Ismaa’eel Ad-Dehlawee Al-Hanafee

Posted in Tawheed/Shirk with tags , , , , , , , , , on July 15, 2011 by TheAuthenticBase

Imaam Ismaa’eel Ad-Dehlawee Al-Hanafee said:

“Allaah has specified actions of glorification to Himself: these are called ‘ibaadah’ (acts of worship) and include: sujood (prostration), rukoo’ (bowing), standing in humility (like placing the right hand over the left – as one does while in salaah(1))… travelling to visit his sanctuary from far away distances, making pilgrimage to his sanctuary (or tomb), calling out his name while on route to his sanctuary like the talbiyah, staying away from filth, sin and hunting animals, holding great reverence to these practices (and places), making tawaaf around his sanctuary, prostrating to it, making vows by it, covering the sanctuary just as the Ka’bah is covered, making du’aa by it, seeking help by it, asking for worldly needs, and needs of the hereafter to be fulfilled, and for hopes to be fulfilled, and kissing a stone from the stones of this sanctuary (2) and touching its walls, and touching its cover, and lighting the place with candles around it out of veneration and worship, and performing rites for it as its custodians do, providing beds and water for the pilgrims, and drinking water at its well for blessings, and pouring such water over the body, distributing such water to people, carrying it to those who were not present, walking backwards so as not to show the backside to the sanctuary, and respecting all that surrounds the sanctuary and not killing game that is near the sanctuary, not cutting down trees near the sanctuary (or tomb) – all of these are actions Allaah has taught His servants and Allaah has singled out these actions for Himself alone.

So whoever directs these acts of worship to a shaykh of a (Soofee) tareeqah, to a Prophet, a jinn, a grave or a place of worship, or to an artefact of a righteous person and seeks blessings from such artefacts or to symbols that the pious person was known for, or prostrates to a coffin or bows to a coffin… or stands in front of him out of awe and humility placing one of his hands over the other, travelling to a faraway sanctuary , lighting candles by them out of reverence and worship, or covering the sanctuary with a cover (like how the Ka’bah is covered), or placing a curtain over the tomb (3), or kissing the grave (2), or using a fan on the grave to keep the flies off, just as servants do with their masters, or placing a pavilion over the tomb, or kissing its steps (2), or sitting on the tomb, and respecting all the trees, plants and herbs which surround the tomb and not dishonoring them – all of such actions are deemed as shirk and are entitled Israak Fil ‘Ibaadah.”

Bilal (r.a) And His Sufferings

Bilal (r.a) And His Sufferings

Bilal (Radhiyallaho anho) is one of the best known of the galaxy of Sahabah as moadhin of the Prophet’s (Sallallahu ‘alayhe wasallam) masjid. He was an Abyssinian slave of a disbeliever in Mecca. His conversion to Islam was, naturally, not liked by his master and he was, therefore, persecuted mercilessly. Ummayah bin Khalaf, who was the worst enemy of Islam, would make him lie down on the burning sand at midday and would place a heavy stone on his breast, so that he could not even move a limb. He would then say to him:

Renounce Islam or swelter and die.

Even under these afflictions, Bilal (Radhiyallaho anho) would exclaim:-

Ahad“-The One (Allah). “Ahad“-The One (Allah).

He was whipped at night and with the cuts thus received, made to lie on the burning ground during the day to make him either forsake Islam or to die a lingering death from wounds. The torturers would get tired and take turns (Abu Jahl, Umayyah and others) and vie with one another in afflicting more and more painful punishment, but  Bilal (Radhiyallahu ‘anhu) would not yield. At last Abu Bakr (Radhiyallahu ‘anhu) bought his freedom, and he became a free Muslim.

As Islam taught implicitly the oneness of the Almighty Creator, while the idolaters of Mecca believed in many gods and goddesses with minor godlings, therefore Bilal (Radhiyallaho anho) repeated:

Ahad” (The One), “Ahad” (The One).

This shows his love and devotion to Allah. Allah was so dear to him that no amount of persecution could distract him from reciting His Holy name. It is said that the urchins of Mecca would drag him in the streets, with his words “Ahad!, Ahad!” ringing in their wake.

Look how Allah rewarded his steadfastness! He was to have the honour of becoming the Prophet’s muadhin. He was always to remain with him at home and abroad to call out the Adhaan for his Salaat.
